I thought the title might get your attention – yes, the time has come to say goodbye to Artylicious and say hello to:

When I first started blogging four years ago I was a little shy about putting myself out there on the internet and felt safer hiding behind the Artylicious identity. Many people looking for me are searching by my name or misspelling Artylicious, so I am moving to a new WordPress blog under my own domain name – glendawaterworth.com which should be nice and easy to remember and probably a little easier to spell.

I have copied over all content from 2010 and will leave this site here intact, so it will still be here to visit whenever you want to refer back to anything, or look back at images, etc. The new blog has a much more minimal, clean, streamlined look and continues to be a work in progress. I have plans for a series of gallery pages, each on a theme or technique, but that’s going to take some time to put together.

Christmas anyone?

Well here I am at Graphicus yesterday, with Lynn’s lovely mannequins in the background. We had a great couple of days and I have to say a big thank you to Team Graphicus who, as always, rallied round the week before to get everything ready. Thanks too to Jean from Crafty Individuals – it’s always inspiring to see you at work Jean and I must have one of those new seashore paper pads – they will go with our underwater stamps beautifully.

The Elusive Images Design Team artwork was on display and was very well received. Don’t worry, you will see it coming up on the DT blog soon.

Meanwhile, here are some pieces that I managed to make during the day.

Two versions of the same technique. The card above was stamped with Adirondack Denim dye ink, then a waterbrush was used to pick up the colour from the stamped lines. A little stickles finishes it off. The trees were stamped with Versamark then I drew in the hills with a Versamark pen and embossed it with Kaleidascope embossing powder.

The same watercolour technique was used on the card below, but this time using Stream Adirondack dye ink.

The reindeer trim isn’t on the website yet, but will be soon. We made up some ribbon tags for the open days which sold really well, each one had four meters of ribbon and one meter of a fancy trim such as reindeer, holly, snowflakes, etc.

I absolutely love this pinecone stamp and had to stop myself reaching for it ALL the time while I was demonstrating. It’s a fantastic stamp for backgrounds and looks fab embossed in white or stamped in versamark on glossy for a resist. The card above is stamped very simply in Memento dye inks on glossy card – New Sprout first, then Bamboo Leaves on top. The base card has the same design stamped with Pear Tart down the side. The greeting is stamped onto one of the flourish blocks which has been stamped onto glossy card with Pear Tart ink.

This one has been stamped with Adirondack pigment ink – the pinecones in Lettuce and the sentiment in Bottle. It’s then been embossed with clear powder. The baubles are from a brand new card kit which we just got in. It’s one of three new cardmaking kits which are aimed at complete beginners, but are just crying out to be used more creatively than intended by mixing them up with stamps. Two of the kits are Christmas and one is a fun girly one that goes really well with our boudoir stamps and would probably keep a fashionista youngster occupied for a while during the summer holidays. They will be featuring in next week’s ‘What’s new’ email, so more on those later.

And it wasn’t just Christmas stamps that we were showing off this weekend. We also got into a spooky frame of mind on Friday 13th. You can have a lot of fun exploring the Dark Side, mwah ha hah ….

The card is a work in progress, it needs a sentiment or bats or spiders or something else! The card panel is actually just stuck on with blu-tak for the photo! The background is distress inks and the house has been coloured with Memento markers, then clear embossed by colouring over with a Versamark pen. We are a little early with Halloween – not many of our suppliers have stock in yet of spooky embellishments, so we’ll definitely re-visit this nearer the time.

The thing is, Halloween is a bit of fun, but it’s unlikely you will need a huge number of Halloween cards (unless you’re having a fancy dress or kids party of course). However most crafters are going to need to make a batch of Christmas cards, so now is a good time to get started.

I’ve fixed the Frosted Lace download now, that should all be working fine. But that’s not all – I’m feeling generous and slightly Christmassy today, so here’s another download for you – I call this one Moroccan Velvet and I’ve done you two colourways of warm red and zingy green.

Life is good

A couple of days ago I said I’d been working on some stuff that was private. From the emails, comments and phone calls, it would seem that may not have been the best way to put it, but at the time I was just trying to explain away the absence of posts without using the busy word again. It didn’t even cross my mind that it might imply some kind of problem. Some of you have been so concerned and obviously really care, but please don’t worry about me, there is a huge amount of positive and good stuff going on in my life right now. I’m not going through any kind of trouble or trauma, I’m not facing a health scare or a pre-menopausal pregnancy or anything daft like that! I’m ‘being there’ for someone who needs me at the moment, that’s all.

So, it’s time for me to pass on some positive vibes by announcing a winner of our Essence of Nature Contest. The winner was chosen completely at random and it is DENISE LICKORISH!! Well done Denise – you will be getting an email from us soon with a voucher to the value of the CD.

And we were comfortably over the ten entries required for a free download, so well done to those of you who entered, you just made a whole bunch of people very happy.

You guys are great! I know I’ve been quiet for a few days, but there’s lots of stuff going on at the moment and some of it is too private to go into, but thanks for hanging in there and checking back to see what I’m up to.

I decided to put together a gallery of all the wonderful responses I got to the Essence of Nature challenge I threw at you last week. If you search for the word ‘busy’ on my blog, you get six pages of results. That’s not good. I don’t want to be remembered for spending my life telling the world how busy I was. I once had someone whinge at me for not blogging enough back in the early days and I almost gave up on blogging because I didn’t want it to become a guilt trip. I soon decided that I would blog on my own terms and figured no one wanted to read lots of apologies as to why I hadn’t blogged so I wouldn’t open my posts with excuses or apologies, but try to say something interesting each time.

Saying I’m busy a lot is almost as bad – it’s making excuses in a different way. We’re all busy in our own ways and I’m sure I would soon be bored with a life of leisure. I would love the chance to test that theory sometime, but at the risk of repeating my oft lamented cry, life has got even more manic than usual. Nothing critical, but both sides of the family need us a fair bit at the moment, and keeping up with my side involves some travelling as none of them live locally. I drew a picture in my journal a few years ago of me juggling – I’ve always felt that running a business is like juggling, but suddenly I’m expected to do it while learning to ride a unicycle at the same time!

Anyway, today I am just popping in to say I have put another little bag of de-stashed bits and pieces together for a lucky winner. I just pulled up the last couple of weeks of comments and have picked out a random winner and the lucky name drawn is … Sue Stone who left a comment on July 27th. Congratulations Sue, we have your address already, so your prize will go out in the post tomorrow.

Butterfly Collage

I found this coloured butterfly image when I was tidying up and knew that it would go beautifully with one of the Essence of Nature papers. This paper has been bleached out by the camera’s flash a bit, but you can still see the soft greens and golden yellows that tie in so well with the daisy butterfly image. The stamped image has been coloured with Derwent Inktense pencils on watercolour paper and the decoupaged butterfly has a touch of stickles on it.

I got some more pics of Smokey yesterday, so hope to get those up for you soon. I have photographic proof that rabbits eat leylandii hedges!
